AI marketing tools for small business fall into six families: chat tools for writing and research (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini), design tools (Canva, Adobe Express and image generators), video and voice tools (HeyGen, Synthesia, ElevenLabs), scheduling tools with AI assistants (Buffer, Meta Business Suite), the AI built into Meta's and Google's ad platforms, and agents that join all the steps. Most small businesses need one tool from two or three of these families, not a subscription to everything.

A note on method: this is not a lab test or a ranking, and we did not run the tools side by side for this guide. It describes what each tool does according to its own documentation, what it costs according to its pricing page (USD, checked between late October and November 1, 2026, unless noted), and what you should test yourself before paying. PowerAds, which publishes this blog, appears as one option in the agent category.

How to evaluate an AI marketing tool: 5 checks

Before you pay, give the tool a real task from your business and check:

  1. Does it sound like you? Ask for three posts for your actual customers. Count how many edits each needs before you'd publish it.
  2. Does it know your context? Can you save a standing brief (custom instructions, a project or a brand kit) so you don't paste it every time?
  3. Names, numbers and local words. Your business name, street names, prices, trade jargon. In voice and video tools this is where the differences show.
  4. What happens to your data? Is your content used for training, and how do you switch it off? This matters the moment you paste anything about a customer.
  5. Commercial use. On the free plan and the paid plan, can you use the output in ads? Are there watermarks?

Writing and research: ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini

All three write posts, ads, scripts and emails, summarize documents and help with research. The differences between them change with almost every model update, so the practical advice is to give two of them the same brief and pick by the result.

ToolMarketing features (per the maker)Price
ChatGPT (OpenAI)Writing, analysis, image generation, web search, projects and custom instructionsFree; Go $8 a month in the U.S.; Plus $20. OpenAI shows ads to Free and Go users in the U.S.
Claude (Anthropic)Writing, analysis of long documents, working with files, projectsFree; Pro $20 a month or $17 billed annually; Team from $20 a seat (pricing)
Gemini (Google)Writing, deep research, image generation, video generation on paid plans, links to Gmail and DriveFree; Google AI Plus $4.99; Google AI Pro $19.99 a month (plans)

What to test: give each the same standing brief about your business and ask for three posts. Which one needs fewer fixes to sound like you? The brief template and 30 ready prompts are in ChatGPT prompts for small business marketing.

Watch out: none of them knows your current offers, prices or competitors unless you tell them, and all of them can state invented facts confidently. Every number and every "study" needs checking.

Design and images: Canva, Adobe Express and image generators

Canva is a template-based design tool with AI features built in: writing, image generation, background removal, resizing a design for other placements and more. It has a free plan with a monthly allowance of AI uses and one brand kit. Canva Pro was listed at $18 a month or $180 a year on Canva's U.S. pricing page in September 2026, according to a third-party snapshot; confirm on Canva's pricing page, since prices have changed several times.

Adobe Express is Adobe's lighter design tool, with templates and Firefly-based generative features. It has a free plan, and Express Premium costs $9.99 a month with 250 generative credits.

Image generators inside ChatGPT, Gemini and design tools create images from a description. They're excellent for backgrounds, mood and illustrations. They're weaker at two things that matter to a business: exact text inside the image (prices especially) and "photos" of your real product or premises, which they can't produce without a source photo.

What to test: make one post with a headline, resize it for Stories, and check that the text survives, the fonts look professional and your brand colors stay put. The full workflow is in AI social media post generators: getting on-brand results.

Video and voice: HeyGen, Synthesia, Creatify and ElevenLabs

ToolWhat it doesFree planEntry paid plan
HeyGenAI presenter videos from a script, translation with lip sync3 videos a month up to 1 minute, watermarkedCreator $29 a month ($24 billed annually)
SynthesiaPresenter videos, training-style explainersAbout 10 minutes a month, watermarkedStarter $19 a month ($14 billed annually)
CreatifyProduct ads and UGC-style ads from a link or images10 credits a month, watermarkedStandard $15 a month
ElevenLabsText to speech, voice cloning with consent, dubbing10,000 credits a month, no commercial licenseStarter $6 a month with a commercial license; Creator $22

What to test: produce a 20-second clip with your business name, a street name, a phone number and a piece of trade jargon. Check pronunciation, pacing and lip sync, and what the plan includes: minutes per month, watermark, commercial rights. When to use a digital presenter and when not to is covered in AI spokesperson videos for small business.

Scheduling: Buffer and Meta Business Suite

Meta Business Suite schedules Facebook and Instagram posts and Stories for free, with a calendar view.

Buffer schedules to several networks and includes an AI assistant for drafting and repurposing captions. Its free plan covers up to 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts per channel at a time; Essentials costs $5 per channel a month.

What to test: connect the accounts you actually use and schedule a week. Check how it handles Reels, carousels and first comments on each network.

The AI inside Meta and Google ads

These are the AI tools most businesses already use without noticing, and they cost nothing beyond the ad budget.

Meta: Advantage+. Ads Manager uses AI to choose audiences, placements and budget distribution. Advantage+ creative generates variations of an ad and fits it to each placement, and Meta made video generation from still images generally available inside it in October 2026. On June 3, 2026, Meta also announced the global rollout of Meta Business Agent, which answers customers on WhatsApp and Messenger.

Google: AI Max for Search. According to the Google Ads Help Center, it combines broader search term matching, headlines and descriptions tailored to the searcher's intent, and final URL expansion that sends each searcher to the most relevant page on your site.

What to test: these tools optimize for the goal you set. Set "clicks" and you get clicks, not necessarily customers. Make sure conversion tracking is right, and review auto-generated text before it runs. The trade-offs between the two platforms are in Google Ads vs Facebook Ads.

Agents that join everything

Each tool above does one piece. You are the one joining them: copying text from the chat into Canva, downloading a video from HeyGen and uploading it to Ads Manager. An AI marketing agent does that joining itself. The concept is explained in what an AI marketing agent is. Website builders such as Wix now ship marketing agents too.

PowerAds is an agent of this kind. It works in WhatsApp and a web chat, in English and Hebrew: you write what the business needs, it researches, shows a plan with cost and timing, and builds after you approve. It makes posts, banners and carousels, landing pages and full websites, Reels and TikTok videos with AI presenters, schedules and publishes to Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn and YouTube, and runs paid campaigns on Meta and Google Ads. Anything that costs money appears as an approval card first. Plans are billed monthly: Growth $149, Ultra $299 and Ultra Max Agency $599, with the ad budget paid to Meta or Google separately.

What to check in any agent, ours included: what it may do without your approval, who owns the accounts and files, how its output reads for your real task, and what each action costs within the subscription.

How to choose by what you need

"I just need better copy." One chat tool, free or entry-level, plus a standing brief about the business. Nothing more.

"I post a lot and don't have a designer." A chat tool plus Canva or Adobe Express. If you post several times a week, a paid design plan saves time on resizing and branding.

"I want videos without being on camera." A presenter or voice tool, after the pronunciation test. A real phone video of you often builds more trust, so mix the two.

"I run my own campaigns." Learn Meta's and Google's built-in AI properly and use a chat tool for ad text variations. That is where AI works for you at no extra cost.

"I don't have time for any of this." That's where an agent, or a professional, earns its fee. Compare the subscription with your own hours and with a freelancer's rate. For a full map of what AI does well in marketing and what it doesn't, read AI marketing for small business.
